Meager is a light, crisp serif revival of Magere Elzevir, a late-nineteenth-century type attributed to Bauer & Comp. and reproduced in Ludwig Petzendorfer’s 1889 Schriften-Atlas, published by Verlag von Julius Hoffmann in Stuttgart. It translates the source’s narrow proportions and open texture into a contemporary digital family, retaining subtle inconsistencies that lend the letters a warm softness and preserve the printerly character of the original. That balance of precision and mischief takes form in a Printer’s Devil ornament—redrawn from a c. 1860 cut in a Cincinnati Type Foundry specimen.

Regular and Kursiv form a two-style family at a single weight. Its concise OpenType set includes standard and discretionary f-ligatures. A weight axis is planned for a future release and will be included with existing licenses.
