Overview

Font Licensing

Fonts are software. They are not sold as products, but licensed for specific uses, clients, organizations, projects, and contexts. Purchasing a font license gives you permission to use the font in the ways described by that license. It does not transfer ownership of the typeface, font software, drawings, source files, names, or related intellectual property.

Licensing Model
Addition Projects uses a size-based, client-based licensing model, similar to the value-based approach pioneered by foundries such as Dinamo. This means licensing is based on who the fonts are for, rather than how many designers install them, how many computers they are used on, or how much traffic a website receives. For most projects, you only need to know one thing: the size of the client or organization using the fonts.

Company Size
Pricing is based on the size of the client organization. A small independent studio, a local restaurant, a cultural nonprofit, a university department, and a large international company do not receive the same commercial value from a typeface. Company-size pricing lets the license reflect the scale of the organization using the fonts. If the company size was accurate at the  time of purchase, the license remains valid for the original licensed use. If the organization grows significantly, the project expands, or the fonts are used in a new context, the license may need to be upgraded. For organizations with more than 300 employees, please get in touch to discuss custom licensing.

License Ownership
The license owner is the end client or organization using the fonts. The people making the work (Third Parties) may use the fonts while working on the licensed client’s project, but only for that client.

Third-Party
A license may be extended to third parties when access to the fonts is necessary for the licensed client’s project. Third parties include anyone not directly employed by the license owner, such as freelancers, designers, developers, printers, producers, fabricators, agencies, or other collaborators involved in the work.

Purchasing
A license can be purchased either directly by the client or by the designer on the client's behalf. In both cases, the license owner and company size should refer to the client or organization using the fonts, not the designer, studio, agency, or freelancer producing the work. If you are a designer purchasing a license for a client project, please enter the client’s name and company size during checkout. The license belongs to the client and covers the fonts only for that client’s project.

Standard Commercial License
A standard commercial license allows one licensed company or organization to use the fonts across ordinary design applications. This includes print, websites, visual identities, books, publications, posters, campaigns, packaging, signage, environmental graphics, presentations, PDFs, social media graphics, and static or moving promotional materials. For other applications (e.g., games, apps, digital products with embedded font files), please be in touch for custom licensing.

Restrictions
The fonts may not be shared, resold, sublicensed, uploaded, redistributed, modified, reverse-engineered, converted, used to create derivative fonts, or used to train machine-learning systems, generative models, datasets, or automated font-generation tools without prior written permission.

Trial Fonts

Get our trial fonts here. Trial fonts contain a reduced character set and are provided for testing and evaluation only. Any public, published, or commercial use requires the purchase of a license. Trial fonts are subject to the EULA.

Student Use
Current students may request a free license for non-commercial, self-initiated school projects during the duration of their studies. This license may also be used for personal portfolio websites and social media, as long as the work remains non-commercial and self-initiated. To request a student license, please email us from your school email address.

Non-Profit Discount
In support of independent culture and public-interest work, we offer a 50% discount for registered nonprofit organizations and publicly funded, non-commercial cultural institutions. This may include charities, libraries, archives, municipal galleries, small museums, community organizations, and similar institutions. Please select the appropriate option during checkout or contact us if you are unsure whether your organization qualifies.

Customization
In addition to bespoke typefaces and logos, we offer custom adaptations of our retail typefaces. This may include expanding language support, adding symbols, icons, or glyphs, adjusting OpenType features, developing additional weights or styles, or modifying a typeface for a specific project, organization, or technical context. Please get in touch with a description of the project for a quote.

Refunds
Font files are digital software. All sales are final, and licenses are non-refundable. Trial fonts are available so you can test the typeface before purchasing. If you believe a purchased font file is defective, please contact us within 30 days of purchase.

Full License Terms
Each purchase is subject to the applicable End User License Agreement. The EULA and the specific license details attached to your order define the permitted uses, restrictions, license owner, client, formats, and scale of use. If your use changes, expands, or exceeds the original license, you are responsible for upgrading or extending the license before continuing use.

Questions
If you are unsure which license you need, please get in touch before purchasing. Include the typeface name, the client or organization, the intended use, the expected scale of the project, and where the fonts will appear.
